Tadpole Update and a New Pet

We lost a few tadpoles last week when I forgot to change the water. Ok, so more than a few - closer to 29 - but we did manage to save one. It is now in a jar on the kitchen counter so I can't possibly forget about it again. It's hard to see from this picture but it looks like the back legs have started to sprout.

We also added a new pet to our countertop zoo - a caterpillar.

This is the caterpillar we caught last week at the Botanical Gardens.

We are still recovering from a busy weekend so I wasn't sure if we would make it to the library today for Library Monday. Fortunately, Ryan got home from work in time for me to run up there by myself before they closed.

This week our homeschool group is learning about seeds so I checked out a few books about growing plants. I also got a book about Florida, since we just went there. And I made sure to pick up a few easy reading books for Thomas. I kept a few of the books from last week because we didn't spend enough time on James Madison or Benjamin Franklin and Thomas asked if we could read the books about color and patterns again. So this week we are studying:

  • Art: color (continued from last 2 week)
  • History: James Madison and Benjamin Franklin (continued from last week)
  • Math: patterns (continued from last week)
  • Reading: The Berenstain Bears' Family Reunion, Cats: The Sound of Short A by Alice K. Flanagan, and A New Home by Tim Bowers
  • Science: Seeds - in conjunction with our homeschool group
  • Social Studies/Geography: Florida
