Buford Trout Hatchery
Today our hiking club went to the Buford Trout Hatchery. We ended up doing more fishing than hiking but everyone had a great time despite the cold, windy weather. We started out our tour of the hatchery by feeding the fish in the "rearing area."
There were thousands of trout in each raceway. It was amazing to see the fish literally jump out of the water fighting over the nasty smelling fish food pellets.
We took a short walk through the woods on one of the nature trails towards the fishing pond. Thomas is reading the map, making sure we are headed in the right direction.
We spent most of the day at the family fishing pond. They have bamboo fishing poles that anyone can use for free. You just have to bring your own bait. Today we shared our lunch with the fish - organic, free-range chicken and raw gouda cheese. Next time I'll remember to bring some worms.
We had a little picnic by the pond while the boys took turns holding the fishing pole. This was their first time fishing and they really had a great time. We will have to come back here for sure!
After the kids lost interest, it was the moms' turn to give it a try. Lila caught the first fish. The picture on the left is her daughter holding it. Then I caught one. I tried to get the boys to pose for a picture with it, but they did not want to come anywhere near it.
