Spring Cleaning

The boys and I spent all day cleaning the house. We paid particular attention to their room. They helped me pull the sheets off their beds, dust, sweep, mop, and wash windows. Then we went through their clothes, sorting out what to donate and what to put away for next winter. I convinced Thomas to donate his favorite pair of Thomas and Friends pajamas that he outgrew at least a year ago but still continues to wear.

Later we read a couple of classic stories out of What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know - Casie Jones and How Many Spots Does a Leopard Have? I tried to get Thomas to read his easy reader, Toy Story 2, but he wasn't interested today. He just wanted me to read it to him.

How Many Spots Does a Leopard Have? is an African folktale. I had never heard it before but I chose it because of our animal theme this week. All of the animals in the jungle take turns counting the leopard's spots. This gives me a great idea for a math activity I hope to try soon.

After we read Toy Story 2 I was going to let the boys watch the movie but all we could find on Netflix was Toy Story 3 so they watched that instead. After it was over, Thomas pointed out to me that Andy, the boy in the movie, was donating his old toys just like we were donating our old clothes. I love it when he makes connections like that!
