A Productive Day

With our new grammar book and math machines the boys were actually excited to do school today. I was determined to get the day off to a good start so I made sure to get up early and make us a good breakfast. While I was doing that Jacob decided he wanted to make a mask. He got very detailed with it and insisted that I take a picture.

After breakfast we took some time to get our work folders organized and set up new portfolio binders to keep the boys' completed work in. I still need to clear off and reorganize our bookshelves. No time for that now, let's get started with school!

Grammar
We jumped right in with the first page of our grammar book - learning about sound words.

Math
Each boy had a drill page with equations they could solve using their new Math Machines. They were having so much fun they didn't even realize they were learning! Thomas' page was all multiplication problems and Jacob's was addition.

PE
Whenever they finish a subject or if I can tell they are having trouble sitting still and need a break, I let the boys run laps around our house. They can go down the hall, turn into the school room, through the kitchen, and back to the hall. It makes a perfect oval track. They usually try to see how fast they can do 10 laps. Today they wanted to try out their new shoes. Thomas swears they make him run faster and jump higher. This is the first pair of shoes they've had with laces so they are finally learning to tie their own shoes. We spent a lot of time working on that today. I can't believe how big their feet are, by the way. That is Jacob on the left and Thomas on the right. Jacob is already a full shoe size larger than his older brother.

Geography
Break time is over, back to work. This will be our first week meeting with our Classical Conversations group so we got started with the first map lesson. We found the Fertile Crescent on our CC map and read the first chapter of Story of the World. Then for handwriting practice they wrote out their geography memory words.

We finished up our geography lesson by blowing up balloons and drawing and labeling the continents on them.

Phonics
We learned about adding -y to the end of words. Each boy read a few pages out of our phonics book, Phonics Pathways.
