In Science for the past two weeks we have been talking about how scientists classify living things and we happen to have a zoo membership so you know what that means... field trip! The drive downtown to the zoo is a good 30-45 minutes. The perfect time to review our memory work.
One of the things I love about the Classical Conversations curriculum is the iPad app with all of our memory work and songs at the tap of a finger. I plugged the iPad into the van speakers so we could all sing along.
At the zoo we met up with some friends that are in the same program so they were learning the same thing this week.
We did sort of a classification scavenger hunt. I read the full scientific name of a living thing and they had to figure out what kind animal or plant I was describing. Then we would go visit that area of the zoo. Then, each child had to choose one of the animals to make a notebooks page for.
Our favorite animal is the Naked Mole Rat.
Before bed tonight we read How Do Spiders Make Webs and watched several YouTube time-lapse videos of spiders making webs.
