Went shopping today to take advantage of back to school sales. Each boy got a few new outfits, a pair of shoes, backpack, and water bottle.
I went into Lakeshore Learning (teacher supply store) looking for a basic grammar workbook. $80 later I came out with a grammar book, math book, journal writing prompts, composition notebook, teacher planner, and addition/multiplication toys. And everything I bought was even on sale.
This is the grammar workbook I decided to go with. Carson Dellosa is my
favorite workbook publisher. Their stuff is always clean and simple.
This book covers just the basics. That’s all we need right now.
The addition and multiplication “machines” are basically just simplified calculators. I usually wouldn’t even consider buying something like this but the boys got really excited when they saw them and they happened to be 50% off. If a cheap plastic toy can get them motivated to do math drills I’m not going to argue. They played with them the rest of the night. The only down side is the annoying clicking sound the buttons make. Thomas even snuck out of bed to play with them after everyone else had gone to sleep. I caught him because I heard clicking sounds coming from his bedroom.
