Monday Funday

Jacob woke up early this morning and Thomas slept in late, so Jacob and I had a couple of hours to ourselves. He had fun playing with Thomas's trains for a while and then we went outside. His name was still on the driveway in chalk from the weekend. I would call out a letter and he had to jump on the right one.

Later, when I was sweeping the kitchen floor, I moved all of the chairs into the family room. Next thing I knew Jacob was in his seat telling me to "drive the car, mommy!" Thomas decided it was a train instead of a car and climbed up to be the engineer.

We had some friends come over for a visit. Forget the toys, Thomas wanted to play with baby Lucy. He did "This Little Piggy" on her fingers and toes.

The kids got a little crazy with their snacks so Thomas got to practice wiping off the table and sweeping the floor. He actually did quite well. This is a common Montessori teaching activity. We keep the mini broom in a drawer down low where the boys can reach it. I need to remember to get them to use it more often. Thomas is also drinking out of a cup without a lid now, and pours his own water from the pitcher in the refrigerator, another Montessori activity.

Once he got the table and floor clean we straightened up the letters on the magnet wall. Thomas got them into order all by himself and then sang the ABC song one more time to make sure everything was in the right place.

Not to be outdone, Jacob had to take his turn performing for the camera.

The boys helped me make dinner tonight. We started by picking fresh veggies from the garden (while eating any red strawberries we could find in the process). We had a spinach and baby green salad. Then onions, peas, and oregano in our creamy squash soup. The squash and other soup ingredients came from local farms.
