After about two hours of driving we finally arrived at our first stop, Carlton Farms, where we met up with our homeschool group.
The boys headed straight for the giant slide.
We visited the chickens. These are the actual chickens who's eggs we eat for breakfast almost every day!
Then we visited the baby animal barn. The boys got to feed the calves and hold the chicks. We also saw donkeys, pigs, and turkeys.
Next we toured the egg cleaning station and the milking parlour. This is our farmer, Brad Carlton, introducing us to Princess the cow, one of only 35 cows who's milk we drink almost every day.
Once the guided tour was over, we laid out the picnic blanket. While we were eating, Thomas said to Amanda:
"I like these snap peas. They are good for us because they have nutrients - vitamin A and vitamin C."
Jacob had a quick bite to eat and then went off to play with the rubber duckies.
After he got nice and wet he found a soccer ball to kick around.
Thomas stayed close to the moms so he could visit his favorite baby friend, Max. Thomas really likes Max and has said on several occasions that we need a baby like Max at our house.
When he had enough of the human baby he spent some time playing with baby kittens. These are only a few days old.
We played with our friends for a little while until it was finally time to get back in the car and head to the next farm.
Today was the first pick up of our local vegetable CSA at Moss Hill Farm.
As soon as we got there, Thomas had to go. I'm so glad I have boys!
The boys played with farmer Floyd's granddaughter while I filled our bag with fresh picked goodies.
This is some of the most nutritious food you can get anywhere. No pesticides, herbicides, fungicides of any kind, fortified with natural minerals, and it was all picked within the last 24 hours.
Before bed we read books about trains, farms, dogs, and math.
