We spent most of the day with my dad for Father's Day. We went over there early to make breakfast for everyone and then swam in the pool for a few hours.
When we got home Jacob was completely exhausted and went straight down for a nap. That gave Thomas and me some time to play by ourselves. He had seen a colorful board game up in the closet and was begging to play with it, even though he had no idea what it was. We've had this game - Mouse Trap - since before either of the boys were born and I don't think anyone in our house has ever played it.
We started out actually playing the game - rolling the dice and taking our turns, but Thomas and I both loss patience with that very quickly. Finally, we abandoned all the rules and just set out to assemble the mouse trap. At this point, Thomas still had no idea what all of this was leading up to but he was giddy with excitement when the last piece snapped into place and I let him turn the crank. I have never seen this boy so happy! He was amazed at the chain of events unfolding before him.
I thought once he ran the "machine" a couple times he would be bored with it. Nope. He did it over and over and over for at least an hour. Then Jacob woke up. That quickly ended the mouse trap game. Jacob was not interested in watching it work. He just wanted to pull pieces off and put them in his mouth. I convinced Thomas to clean up the game and put it away, but I promised that we could get it back out next time Jacob is napping.
