Jacob's presentation for CC this week:

Coprolite

We went to the Tellus museum last week.

The most interesting thing I saw there was fossilized dinosaur poop.

Scientists call it Coprolite. The name comes from two Greek words: kopros, meaning "dung", and lithos, meaning "stone".

Coprolites are known as trace fossils which tells us about dinosaur behavior, not just what they looked like.

Scientist study poop to see what the dinosaurs ate.

They may be as small as a few millimeters to as large as 60 centimeters.

Coprolite samples are safe to touch because all of the germs have died and are completely replaced by minerals during fossilization.
